Forbes is reporting that Google has enacted new death benefits for its employees.
Now, if an employee dies, that employee’s spouse receives half the salary the employee was receiving for a period of ten years.
What’s more: there’s no tenure requirement on this benefit either.
This means that every one of the 34,000 employees at Google is eligible with immediate effect, regardless of the period you’ve been working for the company.
The spouse will on top of the salary also receive stock benefits and children will receive $1,000 every month until they turn 19.
All the same, one interesting question that’s not clear from the reports is: does the policy cover same-sex spouses?
A confirmation from a Google spokesman indicated that gay couples receive this same benefit, which adds to the list of many Google policies that are gay-friendly.
A comparison of this development to free lunch is extremely pale.
